Forests and Climate Leaders Summit
The Forest and Climate Leaders’ Summit is the first event of the Forest and Climate Leaders’ Partnership. It will focus on delivery and accountability of forest and land use commitments made at COP26 and other relevant fora. The event will focus on how essential forests are for people, in terms of food resilience, adaptation and for livelihoods and for climate, notably the vital
sequestration role they play in meeting the Paris agreement. Each session should outline (i) how forests can be a positive development choice for countries contributing to sustainable economic development; (2) the essential role of Africa; and (3) the importance of all types of finance being directed to meet the challenge – i.e. Grants, Concessional Finance, Equity, Philanthropy, Private Investment.12:00 - 14:00 (EDT) -
The Forest and Climate Leaders’ Partnership: Unpacking the FACT Dialogue, Traders Roadmap and Forest Tenure Pledge to build more sustainable supply chains and support Indigenous Peoples and local communities
This event brings together producer and consumer countries, some of the largest global traders and brands, civil society, and indigenous communities, to reflect on progress to date and explore the challenges and opportunities for turning ambition into collective action. We will assess progress on the FACT Dialogue’s Roadmap for Action, the Agricultural Commodity Companies
Roadmap for increased supply chain action, and the Indigenous Peoples and local communities (IPs and LC) Forest Tenure Donor Pledge. The forestry, land use and agriculture sector contribute 23% of global emissions. There is no net zero without removing deforestation from agricultural commodity supply chains, and there is no solution to deforestation and protecting forests without IPs and LC in the lead. The launch of the Forest and Climate Leaders' Partnership at COP27 unites
action by governments, business, and community leaders to halt and reverse forest loss and land degradation by 2030, while delivering sustainable development and promoting an inclusive rural transformation.04:30 - 06:30 (EDT) -
